Week: 9
Songs to Remember: Return of the Mack (C&J Mix) - Mark Morrison, Poison - Bell Div DeVoe, Summer Night (Remix) - GRAY (그레이), Reptilia - The Strokes
I set my expectations really low for this one, knowing that, there wasn't much I could do. And that was true, there wasn't much to do actually.
Well, the beginning of the day started off with nothing really, up until, 4:00 PM, 'cause that's when the cast and I went to this one place for lunch/dinner. It was a vegan-friendly place, so, most, if not all, of the dishes were vegan or vegetarian. Jk, Lw, DrewN, Ek, and Jh were all there, Ag was busy doing badminton stuff on her own. We spent about an hour there, then moved to this one milk tea place next door. Stayed there playing some bootleg mafia and card games before most of us departed to get ready for homecoming.
And that was a real stressful situation for me when it really shouldn't have been. First of all, I thought I'd have my dress-shirt to wear, but looking in my closet, the closet near the doorway and even in my mom's closet, I couldn't find it. My mom probably gave it away so I had to wear one of my dad's dress-shirts, which were a bit too big for me but I masked that with my jacket that I got from Amazon, the one I used for my Persona cosplay.
I then had trouble trying my tie, so I had to look up videos on how to do it. One video was too slow and the other was too fast. Luckily I did get it done, just in time to get to the place fashionably late (about, 5 minutes late or something, but it really didn't matter). I got there, there was a huge line of people, most of which I have never ever seen before at school. It really did remind me of prom, how there was just a big line of people in fancy clothing, who all have dates and shit and of whom I do not recognize or know. Jk met up with me in line, and so did DrewN and his date.
After getting jacket-checked twice, going through the ID scanning and breathalyzer test shit, we were in. And no, there were no punchbowls, just cups with water in it, shot-sized paper cups by the way, with snacks being goldfish on napkins. Yep, sure-fire signs that "Yeah, feels like a dance, seems just right." And what's a dance without people grinding? The dancing was, pretty much just like prom. I kinda feel sorry for the teachers who have to supervise this shit 'cause godamn, it ain't pretty, heh.
Me, Jk, DrewN, and his date were pretty much just floating around, from the dance floor to the bleachers, to the seats outside, to inside the small gym (which is where they had photos and the snowcones) outside of the large gym. I pretty much paid $20 for a snowcone, which, well, was one of the reasons why I even went to Homecoming in the first place. And it wasn't even a good snowcone either really. Not sure how snowcones were supposed to taste but this one was more liquid than ice, and the liquid was really, really sour. I was wondering why cherry-red flavoring was more preferred than the green-apple or blueberry shit, but after tasting the green, I could see why.
So, I thought this whole time that the dance would end at 9:30 PM. It hit 9:30 PM, I was like "Huh, shouldn't it end by now." Jk then told me "What are you talking about, it ends at 10:30 PM." I'm like "What the fuck." 'Cause at this time, Ec, Dv, and Mc were heading to pick me up so we can go eat and then go bowling. It was spontaneous but still. They arrive at the parking at 9:30 PM when I told them that that was the time it'd be finished. Well, it was still 1 hour from finishing so that was pretty, poor timing. I had two choices, to either go with my buddies and just leave the dance, or, continue sitting and chatting it up with Jk for another hour.
And, ya know, without a real "date," this shit ain't fun, and I'm not even kidding. Either bring a shit-ton of close friends, or a date. Because I have been to about 2 other dances so far, prom, and that one charity dance thing for Key club, and after this one, I can honestly say, THEY'VE ALL BEEN THE SAME. Except maybe the charity dance thing, that one was different. Maybe it was because of the people there that carried me through the whole thing and just, the "kind" of people there in general, but still.
This dance just ended up kinda shitty, and so I decided to just go with my buddies, the Discord buddies. I try to head out, I'm like "Hey, can I leave?" and they're like "We can't let people leave early unless we talk to a parent. If you can wait 'till 10:00 PM, in 18 minutes, then you can leave by yourself." What, the fucking, shit, heh. Not sure what this shit solves but uh, okay. Doesn't, doesn't make much of a difference if I leave 18 minutes before or 18 minutes after 10:00 PM, but okay. And so, I told my buddies to wait, which they did. Aaand, I just chilled with Jk for the time being, of which he was playing Jenga with El and her buddies, fucking, yeah.
10:00 PM finally hit, I got out there quick, my buddies were out in the parking lot waiting for me. We went straight to this bowling place nearby (like 10 minutes or so) and played a couple rounds, ate, just chilled in general. Felt pretty surreal since it was like a nice stress-relieving time. I mean, late at night (we left at midnight), bowling with your close buddies, never bowled before in your life, umm, making a couple of your first-ever strikes, and just, not really giving a shit about anything else.
Again, it's not like I do this every day, or every weekend. Maybe like, once every few weekends that I stay out late like this. My parents don't seem to mind, probably considering that I'm old enough now to be a bit more responsible, uhh, and probably because I got A's and B's on my latest progress report, so they ain't worried much about me academically. And also my buddies drive me home so my parents don't have to, late at night.
Homecoming, not really as crazy as people put it out to be. It's just, just any other dance really. And now that I think of it, what does make school dances so special? I think it's 'cause of how they're portrayed in so much media, that it's like, the most important shit for a High-schooler. It honestly isn't, there's better things to do on a Saturday night than watch people grind up on each other, like say, bowling with your close friends.
So what now? Well, it's 1:06 AM, I'm in my underwear, my pants, tie, shirt and jacket are all over the floor. I'm typing this up before finishing Chinese work. I know, I know. "That's it? That's the ending to this special?" Uh, yeah, the whole point of this was to see what shit would happen, and the outcome was: nothing. Nothing happened, and that was exactly according to my expectations, so it ain't something to be indifferent about. Now if the next time I choose to do something like this, ya know, maybe, just maybe it'd go above my expectations. But that's probably asking for a bit too much am I right? Anyways, see ya.
