Week: 17
Songs to Remember: The Wanderer - Dion
So uh, fun shit happened. Well more of just shit in general. It was surprising so that was all that mattered, okay?
Psychology was literally just a 20 question IQ practice test, and then free time. I actually scored a 20. As in, I got 17 right, and because I finished under 30 minutes, I got an extra 3 points. I was actually surprised i managed to figure out some of the questions, like where it had a word scrambled and I had to figure it out. Took me only like 5 seconds to recognize it: anniversary. Pretty crazy. It was on the MENSA scale by the way.
English, where we just discussed uh, causes that we'd go to jail for. Theoretically. 'Cause we're reading about Thoreau and how he went to jail because he didn't believe in slavery. That was pretty much it, about a majority of the class still has yet to present their Scarlet Letter artworks yet so, still hoping for that.
It was kinda regular today with Lt, same old, same old. Biology though, that was kinda shitty. I studied all parts of cellular respiration, and even the questions from the study guide the teacher gave us (which was really, really vague. Like, it was just 10 questions on it, 1 of them being that we should know what stomata are, which turns out its only for one question on the test. And again, really vague and general like, know what cellular respiration is. Well, duh). The test was 28 multiple choice questions, 2 grid-ins, the grid-ins was kindergarten, the multiple choice was no joke.
I did my best, oh look, all I got now is to study for the finals and I'll be A-okay. Nope. Apparently, the test questions and answers was circulated among some students. How did she know that? Some people got a 100% on the test. So, since it wouldn't be fair to give everybody who got a 100% a 0, she's making all of us re-take the test, but with a new one, not one that's found on a public site online, on Monday.
I'm like "Seriously? Did you not check my test, I probably got like a C, and if I were to cheat, I'd bump it up a bit higher than that." But yeah, noob cheaters, man. If they're gonna cheat, well technically I wouldn't call it cheating, because it was public, the test questions and answers I mean, but you get what i mean. They could've been more discreet and not get EVERYTHING right on the test. Maybe have a few wrong to make at least a 90%, never a 100%. Fucking noobs gotta ruin it for everybody. Anyways, our test scores are thrown out the window, so, it's niether yay or nay.
I just wanna have the time to study for the finals, rather than this one test. And no, I didn't know the test was circulated around until I got the email from our teacher. My buddy Bt didn't find out about it either 'till he saw the email and asked his buddy for it so he can review. His buddy's a senior and already has an A in the class, so he doesn't really need to uh, "cheat" so to say. And whadya know, there's the exact questions right there. I'm like "Damn, maybe I should spend more time looking and finding at practice questions online rather than just plain studying."
Anyways, math was the same, lunch was spent with Am and DrewN while the others were at Chinese club. US History was just review jeopardy. And finally Chinese, where we had to just write a sentence on the board using a vocabulary word, all the while doing work. Classwork. And yeah, during lunch DrewN asked if we wanted to see Krampus today. You know, the movie.
Knowing that it's labeled as a horror AND comedy and is PG13 didn't deter me, but apparently it did for everyone else. Like, literally. DrewN and I went into the wrong theater. I was like "Damn, there's barely any people, heh." It was a boxing movie, "Creed," and I thought it was just an ad at first. But then uh, I was like "Huh, going on for a bit now." About a minute later, DrewN was like "Yeah I think we went to the wrong theater." We went back outside and looked. Yep, wrong movie, heh. Thankfully, we did get back in time, about 10 minutes to spare or so 'till it actually started, at 4:35 PM.
Krampus started off alright, it seemed just like another Christmas movie, sorta even forgot that I was watching a horror for a bit. When it got into the first bit of action, it just brang back memories of "Oujia," and how it was just bootleg PG13 kid horror. That wasn't the case for Krampus. The characters are introduced, the setup, action, rest, action, rest, spikes of action, and then just thriller for the rest of the movie. Yeah there was cheap jumpscares but that can be looked over. Spoilers in the next paragraph.
Some parts I felt wasn't necessary, like how they did like stop-motion and animation to tell the grandma's story. When it transitioned back to live action, I almost forgot that that was the actual movie, with real people. Umm, the killer toys, I liked those scenes, I actually laughed, genuinely laughed, due to the kid comedy dialogue as well as the absurdity of it. The elves were a pretty cool design, as well Krampus with how his bells and chains jingle. The gingerbread men were pretty cute too, but CGI, ehhh. The way they did the CGI reminded me that it was a kid PG13 horror movie. They have a charm to them, but didn't really fit in the looks of things. What I really liked was how things took a different turn than expected, like when the grandma was confronting Krampus. You'd think she somehow trump him, but no, she dies. The part where Max contronts Krampus. You'd think his sincerity would make Krampus spare his cousin and bring everybody back. Nope, he wipes his tear, then throws him to hell.
From the same writer as "Trick 'r' Treat" from 2007, it had that same holiday spirit that is embedded into the core of the whole thing. I thought of it as a combination of The Nightmare Before Christmas, Poltergeist, and Scary Movie. Cheap, bootleg, absurd moments, but still had a sort of charm and mystery, it was unexpected, and different from most movies nowadays. So, that's why I'm giving it an 8/10. Not bad, definitely a top nominee for best comedy of the year, heh. Okay, got some studying and work to do this weekend, umm, and yes, Fallout 4 too. So, see ya.
