Week: 11
Songs to Remember: All I Want For Christmas is You - Mariah Carey
Now that Halloween is over, it's that time of year again. Yes, the anticipation for Christmas. Oh uh, Thanksgiving? Ehhh, yeah that too.
Anyways, last night I watched "The Babadook," and with daylight savings time ending, it ended up in my favor, with my being able to finish it before 2:00 AM, pretty good considering I started at like 12:00 AM. Spoilers in the next few paragraphs.
It was generally a very creepy movie, I could see the symbolism between like the mother, the kid, and the Babadook. Either it's because of English class, or because people rated the movie as like a 9.8/10 (it's currently 98% fresh on RottenTomatoes as of this post) and I was wondering why. My friend had told me before that he had seen it, that it wasn't scary. I was like "Well, it's a psychological horror, and because when thinking of scary, you mean a movie needs to have jump-scares, which "The Babadook" doesn't have).
And well, after watching, it was sorta true. I guess for my definition of scary, it would need to be thrilling, and jump-scares sadly, heh, because it's a literal scare. I get scared when I'm anticipating something popping up with a loud noise, but when I know there isn't any of that sort in the movie, I feel reassured. For the characters, the kid was so fucking annoying in the beginning of the movie, holy shit, like I was feeling so sorry for the mom. Then, when the mom got crazy and the kid stopped being as annoying, I started feeling for the kid, and since there's only really 3 characters to focus on in the movie, there's more development personality build-up for 'em.
There wasn't really much of the Babadook seen on-screen. I wished there was more visuals of him, but ah well. I really, really liked the part where the Babadook fell down in defeat, where he just fell flat like paper, from the book (also the book was really creepy, I really liked the book). That visual was so good, I love it. All in all, I guess I'm having the wrong mindset when it comes to differences between scary as in, horror, and scary as in thrilling, but I still rate the movie a 9/10. Really nice character development, loved the visuals, the color, and best of all, no jump-scares while still instilling fear.
Besides that, today daylight-savings time sorta fucked me up a bit, it got really dark when it was only 5, and uh, I felt like the day was going pretty slowly. I finally succumbed to the urge to get on RotMG again, but it felt pretty slow too, like, I kinda know everything about the game, and it's going to take a while for me to farm fame, only to die so I can have enough fame to get an OP pet for my real character, it's just a big grind in the end. So, that was fun while it lasted.
Also I played a bit of UnderTale, just to see what the hype was all about. It's alright really, the charm is there, funny dialogue and jokes, new form of combat system, but uh, just sorta linear sometimes in terms of advancement. Still pretty good. Now wh- OH YEAH. The audition results were posted today: I got a spot for Danger, but, no spot for Call Me Baby. The feels man.
Well, at least I got in one, because someone commented that she didn't make it through auditions last year and now that she's practiced and improved, she's like a veteran now. So, I'm happy I got a part, but uh, as for rehearsal, on the calendar for the Facebook group, it's known as "Hell Month." I'm like "Uhhhhhh." And I thought, I, was gonna get a break.
Anyways, just a bit more work and I'll be done for shit, for tomorrow that is. Still gotta Photoshop my face onto a pic and write some shit for the Psychology project, due Friday. Alright, see ya.
